DeepSeek Harness: balance, approvals, questions and replies

DeepSeek's API is paid by the token, so for Harness, Agent HUD shows the DeepSeek balance where other agents have a quota: what is left, what you spend per day, and the day it runs out.

What you see on the HUD

Harness's colour on the HUD follows the balance: yellow at 10 CNY or 2 USD and below, red once it reaches zero or DeepSeek refuses calls. The hover shows the balance in its own currency, beside Harness's sessions.

With Agent HUD's plugin for Harness, added in Settings → Agent plugins, tool approvals and questions from every Harness host on this Mac, the Desktop app included, appear on the HUD. You allow a tool once or reject it, and answer a question; whichever you answer first, on the HUD or in Harness, counts.

Which account does it count against?

The DeepSeek API account behind the key Harness is configured with. It has no named sign-in; the balance belongs to that account. With a custom API address there is no official balance to read, so Agent HUD sends no request and says so, while sessions and tokens still count.

Running turns and replies

The HUD shows Harness working or done, and a finished turn brings a New reply reminder. Each session's page lists its turns with their new tokens, and every call with its model, context and the tools it asked for.

In statistics the balance comes with what you spend per day over the last day, week or month, and the day it runs out at that pace. The spend is an estimate from the calls Harness recorded on this Mac, at DeepSeek's list price and marked ≈. It is not a charge.

What does Agent HUD read?

Harness's session logs in its own folder, for tokens, turns and sessions. For the balance, the key Harness is configured with: from the environment variable its settings name, or from its credentials file. The key stays inside Agent HUD's engine and goes only to DeepSeek's own balance service.

Approvals and questions come through Agent HUD's plugin, which adds one module and one marked row to Harness's patch file. Like the other request channels, it runs while client hooks are on.

On iPhone and Apple Watch

On the same network as the release, iPhone and Apple Watch show the balance, Harness's tokens and its sessions without a subscription. Agent HUD Remote shows them on any network, and lets you read its conversations.

Questions

Where is DeepSeek's reset countdown?

There is none. DeepSeek bills API use against a balance, so Agent HUD shows the balance and how fast it falls instead of a quota window.
